Keep your skin healthy, glowing and acne-free with this DIY Lavender, Oatmeal and Honey Face Mask. This all-natural face mask helps relieve redness and skin irritation all while leaving a natural glow to the skin.
Just like Lavender, oats are known to be soothing and help relieve inflammation as well as irritation. Oats naturally balance oils and dryness, and help slough off the dead skin cells. Honey is antibacterial and is also antiseptic, also like Lavender! Combined, the Oats + Honey + Lavender together create a soothing face mask.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup rolled oats
1 teaspoon raw honey
1 teaspoon lavender buds
hot water
Directions:
In a food processor or blender, blend oats and lavender until fine powder.
Pour the ground oats/lavender mixture into a bowl.
Add the honey and mix with a spoon until incorporated.
Add a splash of hot water to the mixture and stir until well combined. [Aim to have the face mask a bit on the thicker side, so add a small amount of water at a time until finding the right consistency. It should be like a paste instead of runny.]
Apply the mask to a freshly cleaned face and let sit for about 10 minutes. [TIP: it’s nice to apply before a hot shower or bath because the steam from the shower will open your pores to allow the mask to soak in and penetrate deeper.]
Rinse off the mask with warm water and cleanse your face again with Skin Fresh Facial Mist. [Recommended to repeat 1 to 2 times per week.]

Most recipes for lavender sugar use white sugar; but there is absolutely nothing wrong in using brown sugar, as long as it is not moist! Compacted sugars will spoil quickly, so use brown sugar that is raw or any dry granulated sugars.
INGREDIENTS: 1 cup of (white OR brown) granulated sugar 2 tablespoons dried culinary lavender
DIRECTIONS:
Prepare a clean/sterilized dry jar to store the sugar in, and then add your cup of sugar to the mixing bowl.
Open your package of Belvedere Lavender Culinary Lavender (or other dried lavender). You can leave the buds whole if you are going to remove them later, or, you can throw the dried Lavender buds into a blender to pulse them until the buds are a coarse cut but not a powder. Then mix together with the sugar.
Transfer the mixture into the storage jar, making sure to pack the sugar down while sealing it carefully.
Store the sugar jar in a cool, dark place for 2+ weeks (allowing the sugar to absorb the Lavender flavor – the longer, the stronger the Lavender flavor), shaking the jar every-other day to distribute the Lavender.
[Note: If using full Lavender buds, remove them after a two-week period]
Lavender Sugar is now ready to be use in cooking, teas, lemonades, baking recipes, anything that needs a hint of sweetness with a floral twist!
Clinical studies show that lavender aromatherapy has excellent and positive effects on insomnia, especially with women through midlife.
Most of us have experienced insomnia at one point or another in our lives, and this is especially true for women in mid-life. Insomnia is a disorder that prevents you from getting adequate sleep, including difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep. It can also mean you are not getting past the REM level of sleep into the deeper, rejuvenating sleep your body and mind require.
People suffering from insomnia may:
Take 30 or more minutes to fall asleep
Get less than six hours of sleep per night several times a week
Have trouble staying asleep/wake up far too early
Not fall into the deep sleep levels and not feel rested after sleeping
Feel sleepy or drowsy throughout the day
Over time, this affects your health in several ways such as:
Anxiety
Irritability
Stress
Focusing
Memory
Headaches
Other health issues such as gastrointestinal problems
Lavender Aromatherapy Study
A 2011 study published by the US National Library of Medicine examined the effects of lavender aromatherapy over 12 weeks on heart rate variability (HRV) in midlife women with insomnia. Sixty-seven women aged 45 to 55 participated.
One group received lavender inhalation for 20 minutes twice a week for 12 weeks. The study showed that lavender inhalation had persistent short-term effects on HRV. The women receiving lavender aromatherapy experienced a significant improvement in sleep quality.
Since sleep problems are common in both pre- and post-menopausal women, the study sought to explore natural solutions like aromatherapy as an alternative to Western medicine.
Aromatherapy and Sleep
Aromatherapy has been used for millennia to induce better sleep. Lavender inhalation, in particular, has long been known in alternative medicine to encourage a better state of mind for deeper sleep.
Study Results
The study found a significant decrease in mean heart rate after 20 minutes of lavender aromatherapy. After 12 weeks, midlife women with insomnia had substantial improvements in sleep quality.
Numerous other studies have since confirmed the positive effect of lavender aromatherapy on insomnia.
